This month, Stop Smoking Wales launched its biggest campaign to date to encourage as many of the 690,000 smokers in Wales to try to quit.
As part of the multifaceted campaign our award winning Don’t Be The 1 TV ad has been chosen as the main broadcast medium. Newly edited to included a local Welsh voice and an appropriate call to action, the heavy weight TV campaign runs nationally on ITV Wales and S4C. It continues to educate people of the shocking fact that one in every two long term smokers will die from a smoking related illness – some in their 40’s. A fact that is clearly underestimated by the Welsh smoking population.
Dr Julie Bishop, consultant in public health at Public Health Wales, the organisation which runs Stop Smoking Wales, said: “We know that stopping smoking is one of the hardest things many people will do and that there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach to quitting. That’s why we are launching this multi-faceted campaign today which includes Stoptober and Don’t Be The One – each of which has a different approach to helping you in your quit attempt.”
Both campaigns direct people towards the Stop Smoking Wales website where they can register for Stoptober or sign up for cessation support through Don’t Be The 1.
Early indications have shown good traffic to the Stop Smoking Services and a number of people who can provide key case studies are coming forward to tell their stories and help aid the communication of key messages to their local communities.
